I can’t help but notice the sound of every car that drives by my house, the kids playing in the park two blocks away, and even the conversations of people on the street. It’s as if all the sounds are amplified, and I can’t escape them. Has this ever happened to you? If so, you’re not alone. There are many reasons someone might be able to hear everything outside their house.
The first reason you might hear everything outside is because of the design of your house. If your house has thin walls or poor insulation, the sound will travel through them and into your home. This is especially true if your house is old or was not built with soundproofing in mind.
The second reason for hearing everything outside is because of the sounds themselves. Some sounds, like car horns or sirens, are naturally loud and difficult to block. Other sounds, like people talking or dogs barking, can seem louder than they are because they are so close to your house.
The third reason you might be able to hear everything outside is the time of day. During the daytime, there are more sounds outside as people go about their business. At night, however, things tend to be much quieter, and you might be able to hear sounds that you couldn’t during the day.
The fourth reason has to do with your hearing. As we age, our hearing becomes more sensitive, and we can pick up sounds we couldn’t when we were younger. This is why many older people have trouble sleeping at night because they can hear all the outside noise.
The fifth and final reason you are hearing everything from the outside is the weather. Windy days are challenging as the wind can carry sound for long distances. On calm days, however, you might be able to hear sounds that you wouldn’t normally be able to hear.
