Windows in every apartment serve a wide range of functions simultaneously. They should open and shut easily, protect against drafts and provide ideal insulation while offering an excellent view. However, proper adjustments are necessary for them to fulfill such requirements. Window adjustment is easy when you have the right tools and relevant knowledge. The rest of this post enlightens you on How to Adjust Double Glazed Windows.

Adjusting Window Height in the Frame

Start by checking if the sash bottom fits into the frame. Open and close the windows a few times to assess if the sash base slides smoothly in the frame. You need to raise the window’s height if the sash sticks against the seal or frame. Conversely, you ought to lower the height if your window does not contact the frames after shutting but leave a significant gap above them.

Open the Window Fully

Opening the window gives you smooth access to the tiny screws you need to adjust. It is prudent to work on a day you are sure it may not rain as adjustments can take quite a long time to complete.

Loosen the Screws

Start with loosening the screws holding the unplasticised polyvinyl chloride- uPVC casement on the left and right sides. Use a suitable screwdriver to loosen each screw about one complete turn. The casement is the metal strip that fastens directly to a window frame. The hinges also attach to the casement to open and close your window. Avoid loosening screws attaching the hinges to the frame when adjusting window height.

Lift or Press Sash to Change Height

Loosening the screws allows you to lower or raise the height of an adjustable window panel. Press the window panel slightly downward if it has not been closing fully. Alternatively, lift it slightly if your window sticks against the frame while closing. Ensure you support the panel until you tighten each screw back.

Tighten All the Screws

Ensure you tighten the screws after adjusting the sash to address your needs. Give each screw a complete clockwise turn when tightening. Try to turn your windows severally to check if it closes and opens appropriately.

Lock Adjustment for Excellent Seal

Open your window to locate lock adjustment head. Check on the lower half segment of the open window sash between the base of the sash and lock to identify the head. Adjusting the lock position enables your windows to seal appropriately if your locked window has been drafty or loose. It will also ensure the lock systems catch and seal windows properly.

Lock Adjustment

Use Allan wrenches to move the lock for proper adjustment. Turn the wrench clockwise or anticlockwise to adjust the lock forwards or backwards. Turning the wrench clockwise moves the lock backwards to increase the pressure exerted on your window when shut. This adjustment stops any drafts and improves the seal. On the other hand, an anticlockwise turn relaxes the pressure when the window is locked. This approach helps when a window does not lock fully or requires significant force to shut.
